She makes it sound like Wonderland. That was a place all on its own, too. Except Alice got there by going down a rabbit hole, and it sounds like no one knows how they got here. Melanie had just stepped outside, and she's done that lots of times without ending up anyplace strange or unexpected.

Sara steps closer, and Melanie loses her smile. "You shouldn't do that," she says, taking a few steps backward. This still feels like a dream, like it has to be fake, so she isn't afraid. But if she's the only hungry child here, she should be careful. She doesn't want it to turn into a bad dream. "It's not safe."
